What is it?
PerClot particles have a molecular structure that rapidly absorbs water from blood, creating a high concentration of platelets, red blood cells and coagulation proteins at bleeding site, which accelerates the physiologic clotting cascade. Upon contact with blood, PerClot rapidly produces a gelled matrix that adheres to and forms a mechanical barrier with the bleeding tissue. PerClot particles are enzymatically degraded by alpha-amylase and glucoamylase and by macrophages. Absorption normally requires several days and is dependent on the amount of material applied and the site of application.

Why is it better?
PerClot technology modifies plant starch into ultra-hydrophilic, adhesive forming hemostatic polymers. PerClot particles are biocompatible, absorbable polysaccharides containing no animal or human components. Utilizing this purified plant source material is critical to minimizing the risks of infection and bleeding-related complications during surgery.
Availability & Applications
PerClot is available in 1g, 3g and 5g configurations with a 100mm or 200mm (3g only) applicator. PerClot is delivered to the sterile field in a double barrier, sterile pouch and is intended as an absorbable hemostatic system to control bleeding during surgical procedures or following traumatic injuries. PerClot is approved to be used in a wide array of open and laparoscopic surgical procedures, including:
