J. Patrick Mackin
Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
J. Patrick Mackin has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of CryoLife since September 2014. He was appointed to the CryoLife Board in October 2014, and Chairman of the Board in April 2015. Mr. Mackin has more than 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining CryoLife, Mr. Mackin served as President of Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management, the largest operating division of Medtronic, Inc., from August 2007 to August 2014. At Medtronic, he previously held the positions of Vice President, Vascular, Western Europe and Vice President and General Manager, Endovascular Business Unit. Prior to joining Medtronic in 2002, Mr. Mackin worked for six years at Genzyme, Inc. serving as Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Cardiovascular Surgery Business Unit and as Director of Sales, Surgical Products division. Before joining Genzyme, Mr. Mackin spent five years at Deknatel/Snowden-Pencer, Inc. in various sales and marketing roles and three years as an Officer in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mackin received an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Thomas J. Bogenschütz
Vice President EMEA CryoLife Inc. and General Manager JOTEC
Thomas J. Bogenschütz is Vice President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa and General Manager of JOTEC GmbH in Hechingen, Germany. Mr. Bogenschütz has 25 years’ experience in the cardiac and vascular business. Over the past 16 years’ while Mr. Bogenschütz served as CEO of the JOTEC Group, he developed the business into a leading European company in the vascular and endovascular industry. Prior to joining JOTEC, Mr. Bogenschütz worked as Investment Manager at LSmedcap GmbH where he developed and managed several medical Startup companies. He began his career in the cardiac industry in various Sales and Marketing leadership roles. Mr. Bogenschütz received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Applied Science Esslingen, Germany in 1993.
Scott B. Capps
Vice President of Clinical Research
Scott B. Capps was appointed to the position of Vice President of Clinical Research in November 2007. Prior to this position, Mr. Capps served as Vice President, General Manager of CryoLife Europa, Ltd. in the United Kingdom from February 2005 to November 2007 and Director, European Clinical Affairs from April 2003 to January 2005. Mr. Capps joined CryoLife in 1995 as Project Engineer for the allograft heart valve program, and was promoted to Director, Clinical Research in 1999. He is responsible for overseeing and implementing clinical trials to achieve FDA and International approval of CryoLife’s medical products. He received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and his M.S. in Bioengineering from Clemson University.
Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing
John Davis is Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. With over 25 years experience in Sales and Marketing Leadership roles, Mr. Davis has developed a wealth of experience in field force sizing and deployment. Previously, he worked alongside McKinsey and Company to develop an allocation model and deployment criteria. Mr. Davis has expertise to ensure ongoing discipline and proper allocation of sales and support resources.
Prior to joining CryoLife, Mr. Davis served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at CorMatrix Cardiovascular. Previous to this, he served as Vice President in the Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management division at St. Jude Medical.
Among his significant previous positions, Mr. Davis spent 14 years at Medtronic, where he managed the addition of more than 500 people. While at Medtronic, he served the Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management team including 6 years as Vice president of the Southeast. Mr. Davis was awarded several Medtronic awards, including the President’s Club as Sales Representative and District Manager, National Region of the Year as Vice President, as well as The Star of Excellence Award for his work in field force deployment.
Mr. Davis received a Bachelor degree from Western Carolina University.
Richard C. Gridley II
Vice President of Asia Pacific & the Americas and General Manager

Richard C. Gridley II is Vice President of Asia Pacific & the Americas and GM of CryoLife Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. Rich joined the company in 2005 and has served in various positions within the sales and marketing areas. He was promoted to Vice President in 2008 and assigned as GM of CryoLife Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. in 2014 based in Singapore. Rich has over 20 years of experience in sales and marketing. Prior to joining the company, he held various positions at 3M Company, Global Link Logistics and Teleflex Medical. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Winthrop University in 1994.
Jean F. Holloway, Esq.
Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary
Jean F. Holloway, Esq. is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Prior to joining CryoLife in 2015, she held various positions, including Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of C.R. Bard, Inc., Deputy General Counsel, Medtronic, Inc., Vice President, Litigation, Boston Scientific, Inc., and Deputy General Counsel, Guidant Corporation. Jean also spent nearly 15 years in private practice as a trial lawyer at Dorsey & Whitney, Faegre & Benson and Sidley & Austin. She clerked for two years on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals for the Honorable Luther M. Swygert. Jean has a J.D./M.B.A. (cum laude) from the University of Chicago, and two undergraduate degrees from Yale University in engineering and political science.
Amy D. Horton, CPA
Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer
Amy D. Horton, CPA has served as Chief Accounting Officer of CryoLife since 2006. She has been with the Company since January 1998, serving as Controller from April of 2000 to August 2006 and as Assistant Controller prior to that. From 1993 to 1998, Amy was employed as a Certified Public Accountant with Ernst & Young, LLP. She received her B.S and Master’s degrees in Accounting from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
D. Ashley Lee, CPA
Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer
D. Ashley Lee, CPA has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer since November 2004. Mr. Lee has been with the Company since December 1994 serving as Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer from December 2002 to November 2004; as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer from April 2000 to December 2002; and as Controller of the Company from December 1994 until April 2000. From 1993 to 1994, Mr. Lee served as the Assistant Director of Finance for Compass Retail, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Equitable Real Estate. From 1987 to 1993, Mr. Lee was employed as a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young, LLP. Mr. Lee received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Mississippi.
Vice President of Kennesaw Operations
Dennis Maier joined CryoLife in July 2017 as the Vice President of Kennesaw Operations. Mr. Maier has more than 15 years in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Cryolife, he served as the Senior Director of Baxter Healthcare’s direct material global purchasing and supplier management team. Prior to that he served as the VP of Global Sourcing for Hill-Rom where he led several cost savings initiatives and helped integrate several acquisitions. Prior to that he spent five years with Medtronic leading several Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) manufacturing operations as well as serving as the Director of CRDM Global Commodity management. Before that, Mr. Maier spent 8 years with Abbott Vascular and Boston Scientific (both former Guidant Corporation businesses) in a variety of manufacturing, sourcing, and quality control roles to include managing the Xience V catheter manufacturing operation in Temecula, CA, the Coronary Implants operation in Clonmel, Ireland and Boston Scientific’s Contract manufacturing group in St. Paul, MN. Prior to entering the medical device industry, Mr. Maier worked briefly for Ford Motor Company and served six years as an Officer in the U.S Army. Mr. Maier received an MBA from the Krannert Graduate School of Management from Purdue University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S Military Academy at West Point.
Senior VP, Chief Human Resources Officer
Jim McDermid was appointed the position of Chief Human Resources Officer in September 2016. Mr. McDermid joined the company from Medtronic where he was Group Vice President of Human Resources for the Cardiac and Vascular Group. In that role, Jim was supported by over 240 dedicated HR professionals worldwide, who were committed to attract, develop, and retain the talent necessary to achieve the Medtronic’s Mission.
Prior to joining CRDM, Jim was the Vice President of Human Resources for Medtronic’s Spinal & Biologics Division, located in Memphis. His other Medtronic positions have included HR Director, USCV and HR Director, Cardiac Surgery. While in these roles, Jim managed the integration of Sofamor Danek & Avecor into Medtronic, developed unique training and leadership programs and assisted in ensuring Medtronic won the city award as the Best Employer in Memphis for 2006. He also sat on the two boards; the Leadership Academy of Memphis, and Community Health Charities of Tennessee. Jim has a passion for ensuring all employees feel included and valued and was recognized with the Medtronic CEO Inclusion Award in 2007 for his efforts in improving the diversity of the leadership team. In 2009, he was recognized with Medtronic’s highest leadership award, the Win Wallin Award (named after Medtronic’s former CEO), for his efforts in talent development & personal leadership.
Prior to Medtronic, Jim worked for numerous Fortune 500 companies, including Rockwell International, Hudson Bay Company, Cooper Industries and International Paper.
Jim holds a bachelor’s from the University of Toronto, and a master’s in Human Resource Management from McMaster University in Ontario.
William F. Northrup III, MD
Vice President of Physician Relations and Education
William F. Northrup III, MD is Vice President of Physician Relations and Education. Prior to joining the company in 2008, he spent nearly three decades in clinical practice in Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota primarily focused on heart valve and aortic root reconstruction. At CryoLife, he has expanded the use of biological simulators to provide high level education in aortic valve and root anatomy and surgery and dialysis access surgery through Aortic Allograft Workshops, Ross Summits, Central Vein Pathology Summits and focused Aortic Valve and Root Boot Camps specifically for cardiac surgical residents. He has accepted faculty invitations for lectures and workshops at numerous academic institutions and professional societies. Dr. Northrup received his MD from the University of Southern California and his General and Thoracic Surgical Residency training at the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, Heart Valve Society and the Vascular Access Society of the Americas.
Vice President of Quality
Sherry Saurini joined CryoLife in December 2015 as the Vice President of Quality. With over 25 years of experience in quality leadership roles, Ms. Saurini has developed a broad repertoire of skills in the continuous improvement of quality systems. Prior to joining CryoLife, Ms. Saurini served as Vice President of CR Bard Medical Quality Assurance, as well as a variety of positions with increasing responsibilities at world class medical device manufacturing organizations. She is responsible for overseeing and implementing quality to achieve compliance to regulatory requirements at CryoLife. She received her Bachelors in Mathematics from Hanover College (Hanover, IN) and her M.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics from Georgia State University. She holds both the Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) certifications from the American Society of Quality.
Vice President Operations and General Manager
Derek Southard began his career in the medical device industry and has been with On-X Life Technologies since 1995. During this time, he has gained extensive experience in both cardiovascular and orthopedic device development and manufacturing. Mr. Southard is primarily responsible for all aspects of Austin Operations including manufacturing, engineering and facilities. In addition, he is also responsible for directing On-X LTI’s rapidly expanding Contract Manufacturing Services Group. Mr. Southard received his Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University and has served on the department’s External Technical Advisory Board since 2010.
Vice President of Sales North America
Mike Tuckerman is an industry veteran with more than 15 years of sales and leadership experience in the cardiac space, and 25 years of experience in the medical device industry. He most recently served as the Vice President of US Sales for Medtronic’s Interventional Lung Solutions segment where he helped build out a high performing sales team of over 80 sales reps, 10 region managers, 2 Area Directors and 1 Training Manager, while significantly growing their customer base. Prior to Medtronic, Mike held several other senior sales and leadership positions at companies including St. Jude Medical, Guidant Sales Corporation, and CardioGenesis Corporation.
