Transmyocardial Revascularization (TMR) Training Workshops

Invited Faculty: The instructor of the workshop will be Keith B. Allen, M.D., Director of Surgical Research at Mid America Heart and Vascular Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Allen has been involved with TMR since 1997 and has completed over 500 TMR procedures, both adjunctive and stand alone. In addition, he has been involved with over seven published papers with the use of TMR.
Purpose: To provide didactic and hands-on training in transmyocardial revascularization (TMR) technology. The didactic portion will cover the history of TMR, provide a clinical overview of outcomes, mechanism of action, appropriate patient selection and laser usage. The hands-on wet lab uses the Holmium:YAG Laser System and a porcine heart to practice techniques as well as demonstrate laser safety and device handling. This workshop is designed for cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, fellows and residents.
