Patient Story: Candy
Mother and Nursing Student
SynerGraft Patient
CryoValve SG Heart Valve

“I got used to being in the hospital and I got used to the whole idea of it. When I was fifteen I was expecting to have more surgeries throughout the rest of my life.”

Candy was diagnosed with VSD (shortness of breath) which is when she says she knew something was wrong. “I would make Jessica (her daughter) carry a load of laundry down the stairs for me, because I couldn’t do it.”

“I got used to being in the hospital and I got used to the whole idea of it. When I was fifteen I was expecting to have more surgeries throughout the rest of my life.”
“Since my Synergraft operation in 2000, there hasn’t been any shortness of breath; there were no telltale signs of having a heart problem. I could actually go 30 or 45 minutes on the treadmill.”

More Energy and Big Dreams

After her procedure, Candy recalls her oldest daughter telling her that her coloring was better. “I remember her telling me that my coloring in my face was better after that surgery. I was really glad to hear I would have more energy, that I could do more stuff with them, and I wouldn’t make them take the clothes downstairs.”
Of her experience receiving a CryoValve SG Pulmonary Heart Valve, Candy says, “Since my procedure in 2000, I haven’t needed any additional heart surgeries. I would love to be able to see a cardiologist every one and a half or even two years instead of every year, that would make a difference. I would also like to finish my RN degree, to send both of my kids to college.”
