Proud Member of the AATB
As an accredited institution of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) since 2005, CryoLife supports AATB’s comprehensive tissue-banking standards which are globally upheld as the definitive standard for tissue banks.
The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is a professional, non-profit, scientific and educational organization. It is the only national tissue banking organization in the United States, and its membership totals over 100 accredited tissue banks with more than 1,000 individual members. These banks recover tissue from more than 30,000 donors and aid in the distribution of more than two million allografts for more than one million tissue transplants performed in the United States each year.
Since its beginning in 1986, the AATB has been dedicated to improving and saving lives by promoting the safety, quality and availability of donated human tissue. To fulfill that mission, the AATB publishes standards, accredits tissue banks and certifies personnel. The association also interacts with regulatory agencies and conducts educational meetings and remains the only private accreditation program for tissue banks in the U.S. In 1988, the Association also began a Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS) certification for individuals working in tissue banking. Today, nearly 4,000 individuals have been awarded the CTBS certification, and CryoLife currently has between 35-40 Certified Tissue Banking Specialists on our staff.
CryoLife continues to work with the AATB to improve the quality and availability of donated tissue. Our ongoing commitment to delivering results and inspiring others strengthens our leadership in the areas of cardiac and vascular tissue.
